Patients with liver cancer can eat more citrus fruits as appropriate.
Citrus fruits are rich in sweet orange pigment, which has some anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor effects. A liver cancer cell experiment found that sweet orange pigment can induce liver cancer cell death through signaling pathways regulated by anti-cancer genes such as p53, which is protective against liver cancer. Of course these data are from cellular experiments and there is no definitive evidence of anti-cancer effects in humans.
Dietary guidelines recommend a daily intake of 200 to 350 grams of fruit (equivalent to 1 to 2 apples, 1 to 2 oranges, 2 to 4 kiwis, and 6 to 12 large strawberries). It is recommended that patients with liver cancer can prioritize a portion of citrus fruits, including oranges, tangerines, and grapefruit, while maintaining a daily fruit intake.
