When you touch the surface of the cervix, you will feel a cylindrical tissue with a cervical opening in the middle, and the sensation of touching the cervix with your hand is similar to touching the tip of your nose with the same hardness, that is, the cervix is slightly harder than the other vaginal tissues. Under normal circumstances the surface of the cervix can be smooth or it can appear as a red granular change, both are normal. The smooth surface is mainly covered by the squamous epithelium, while the red granular changes are caused by the outward migration of the columnar epithelium, which is also normal, mainly due to the high secretion of estrogen in women of childbearing age.
