Can you take metronidazole tablets for gastroenteritis?

Metronidazole is a class of anti-inflammatory drugs, but this class of antibiotics has significant gastrointestinal irritation, and many patients experience significant upper abdominal discomfort, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, and other adverse gastrointestinal symptoms after taking metronidazole tablets. Unless the patient has gastritis caused by a combination of H. pylori, there is usually a class of metronidazole medication in the quadruple dose that may be used to kill H. pylori. The use of metronidazole tablets is not recommended for patients with gastroenteritis in general, but will exacerbate the clinical symptoms of gastroenteritis, and patients will have more unbearable symptoms from taking metronidazole tablets. Therefore, patients with acute gastroenteritis are not advised to take metronidazole tablets, and if they must, they are advised to take them immediately after a meal and not on an empty stomach.
