How long does it take to rule out a cerebral hemorrhage

Brain hemorrhage can be ruled out as soon as 7 days after the injury and is a gradual progression. The most dangerous cases can be ruled out if there is no obvious sign of bleeding inside the head when a head CT is performed in the emergency room after the injury. 3 days later a head CT also serves to rule out a brain hemorrhage, followed by a head CT 7 days later when there are no unusual occurrences and the patient’s condition is stable. The biggest fear is delayed cerebral hemorrhage, which occurs 99% of the time within 7 days of injury. If the patient gets through 7 days and still does not show significant improvement, a brain hemorrhage can basically be ruled out and reassured. Occasionally, a brain hemorrhage may not occur until 1-2 months later, but it must be clear whether this injury is the cause and the appropriate differential diagnosis should be made.
