Introduction Niu Xiewu, an academician of Chinese medicine of Ben-Gang General Hospital, has been a teacher of Chinese medicine for more than 40 years, treating tens of thousands of patients at home and abroad, and has been engaged in clinical, scientific research and teaching work of acupuncture and geriatric medicine. He is known as the “First Needle of China” by Chinese and foreign patients and media at home and abroad. Shi Xuemin’s “brain-awakening acupuncture method” is recognized by the world for the treatment of stroke diseases. He has deliberately innovated in acupuncture points, techniques and metrology, created theories, and established the acupuncture method “in the direction of scientific and standardized development of modern acupuncture”. As a doctoral supervisor, he has explored a whole set of acupuncture advanced talent training model following the characteristics of acupuncture in Chinese medicine, and has explored a new way to cultivate doctoral students in Chinese medicine, which has reached the international leading level. As an academician of acupuncture in China, he has been able to plan for the delicate silver needles and choose the right entry point to promote China, so as to shine Chinese medicine and the Chinese nation: he has visited more than 40 countries and regions to lecture and treat patients; he has established long-term scientific research and medical cooperation with 11 universities in 4 countries; 2,483 trainees and international students from 42 countries and regions have come to Tianjin First Affiliated Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine to study acupuncture; he has received 3,234 visiting groups from 29 countries and regions; 2,388 overseas patients have visited the hospital. He was the first to propose and practice the quantitative theory of acupuncture techniques, which is a historical and outstanding contribution to the development of Chinese acupuncture. Shi Xuemin’s “Danqi Paraplegia Z Capsule”, which has been successfully developed for more than 30 years, is highly effective in treating stroke diseases; his invention of “Awakening Head” is particularly effective in treating hypertension, vertigo, headache, etc. He has published 27 books and more than 40 papers, and has trained 20 doctors. Shi Xue Min has focused on the scientific research of acupuncture and moxibustion, presiding over the completion of the project “clinical and experimental research on the treatment of stroke by acupuncture method of waking up the brain”, which won the 3rd prize of the National Science and Technology Progress in 1995, the highest national award for clinical research of Chinese medicine since the founding of the new China; the project won the 2nd prize of Science and Technology Progress (category C) of the National Education Commission in 1997.
