Osteonecrosis of the talus, as a rule, does not heal itself.
Osteonecrosis of the talus is an irreversible pathology caused by ischemia of the bone due to repeated impact, trauma, use of medication with glucocorticoids, and malnutrition of the organism.
The talus is located deep within the ankle joint, and most of it is an articular surface with less soft tissue attached to it. Therefore, there are fewer blood vessels that can enter the talus. Once necrosis occurs in the talus, it means that the blood supply around the talus has been damaged and the talus cannot heal itself.
Although necrosis of the talus is not self-healing, if necrosis is detected, it can be effectively slowed down and prolonged by actively cooperating with treatment such as surgical drilling and decompression.
