How to control the development of myopia in teenagers

It often happens at work that parents bring their children to the clinic and tell me that they can’t see when they sit in the back row of the classroom, or they notice that they have been squinting at the TV lately. After a detailed examination, we tell the parents that your child is nearsighted and needs glasses. The parents’ first reaction is, can we not wear glasses, how can we cure it, we don’t want to wear glasses. Today, I have a detailed answer to these questions from parents. One, the child’s long-sightedness decline, that is, see far is not clear, to the hospital after a detailed examination, confirmed myopia, then the only correction method is to wear glasses. Because myopia is actually a disease, is the structure of the eye occurred a small, we can not feel the changes, resulting in our eyes to see far is not very accurate, so the distance can not be seen, the greater the myopia, the closer to see the range of distance. Therefore, we will have to rely on wearing the right degree of glasses to see the distant scenery. Second, in the developmental period of adolescents, once myopia, myopia degree will have different degrees of growth. The growth of the degree has a certain relationship with heredity, diet, eye habits, and the appropriateness of glasses. After myopia, we suggest that teenagers should pay attention to their eyes, not to spend too much time using eyes at close range, and try to reduce the time spent on homework, playing the piano, and watching TV and cell phones. You can look into the distance during eye breaks or play table tennis to exercise the muscles inside the eyes to control myopia growth to some extent. It is also recommended that teens do more extracurricular activities, especially outdoor activities during the day when the sun is better. Third, for adolescents who are already myopic, the development of myopia can also be controlled by medical means. For myopia within five degrees and astigmatism within two degrees, it can be controlled by wearing keratoplasty lenses. Corneal shaping lenses have been used clinically in ophthalmology for more than 10 years, and with the development of technology, the more sophisticated the lens production technology, the more secure and comfortable it is to wear. According to clinical observation, keratoplasty lenses can control myopia growth of no more than fifty degrees within two years. For myopia of more than five hundred degrees, the development of myopia can be controlled to some extent by wearing RGP contact lenses and juvenile multifocal lenses.
