How to reduce the side effects of glucocorticoids

Nephrotic syndrome is a clinical syndrome characterized by massive proteinuria, hypoproteinemia, hyperlipidemia, and edema, and most of the patients in this group are children. The etiology of the disease is not well understood, but many experts believe that it may be more closely related to metabolic reactions. Therefore, adrenocorticosteroids have become the recognized drug of choice both at home and abroad, and the basic drug is prednisone (prednisone). However, due to the large amount and long duration of hormone application required for the treatment of nephropathy, more side effects and complications can easily occur. Therefore, patient care should be enhanced throughout the hormone therapy period. Numerous clinical experiences have confirmed that actively doing the following three aspects can significantly reduce side effects and complications, and can guarantee that hormone therapy is not interrupted, thus achieving the purpose of improving the cure rate and reducing the recurrence rate. Prevention of respiratory tract infection Upper respiratory tract infection is a common disease and a major trigger for forcing the interruption of hormone therapy and the relapse of nephropathy, therefore, the prevention of upper respiratory tract infection should be put on an important position. The focus of strengthening the prevention link is to increase and decrease clothing in time with the change of weather; take patients to crowded places as little as possible or not; prevent heatstroke, cold and cross-infection; keep indoor air fresh and circulating, and maintain appropriate temperature and humidity. Prevent skin and oral infections Because the use of hormones can make the body’s resistance and immunity decline, so when the skin is damaged or the oral cavity is unclean, patients are prone to infections. In this regard, firstly, we should pay attention to let patients bathe, wash hands and feet regularly to keep the skin clean; secondly, patients should not use too much force when bathing to prevent skin abrasion and prevent skin damage by sharp instruments such as knives and scissors; thirdly, we should pay attention to oral hygiene, rinse the mouth regularly (including rinsing with warm water after meals and medication) and brush teeth 2 to 3 times a day; fourthly, we should check the oral cavity regularly, and once oral inflammation or ulcers are found, we should promptly use a medicine to prevent them from getting infected. If you find oral inflammation or ulcers, you should gargle with boric acid or compound borax solution, and use Simethicone and Yunnan Baiyao to apply the oral ulcers to promote the ulcers to heal as soon as possible. If you or your family members are inexperienced or do not have the above mentioned drugs, you should go to the stomatology department of the hospital for timely treatment. Prevent overexertion Patients with stable kidney disease should be encouraged to be more active, as this helps prevent the side effects of high blood clotting and osteoporosis complications of hormones. However, it is important to note that the activity should never be excessive, so as not to induce aggravation of kidney disease due to exertion. Many experts advocate that patients must be guaranteed sleep at night, no less than 8 hours a day (children should maintain 8-10 hours), and have a nap during the day for no less than 0. 5 to 1 hour. If patients feel tired or strained after activities, they should promptly rest in bed to relieve fatigue. In addition, the diet on weekdays should be low in salt, moderate protein and calories, and patients should be encouraged to eat more fruits and vegetables, drink more vegetable soup and lean meat soup, and enhance patients’ physical strength and energy through a reasonable diet, which can effectively reduce the symptoms of fatigue and exertion and help enhance the defense ability of patients’ organism. Nephrotic syndrome is a chronic disease, although drug treatment is an indispensable and important means, but good care is also an essential and important work. As long as proper care, not only can reduce the side effects and complications caused by long-term, large amounts of medication, but also can effectively improve the cure rate of the disease. Patients with kidney disease and their families should not ignore this.
