They are both inflammatory/infectious diseases of the respiratory system, but the sites of lesions are different, with colds being in the upper respiratory tract, bronchitis in the bronchi and bronchitis in the trachea and bronchi. All three are similar in etiology, presentation and treatment, and are often combined, making them easily confused.
