What tests should be done for suspected prostate cancer?

As people become more health conscious, more and more patients are now paying attention to early detection of prostate cancer. Although there are no specific symptoms in the early stage of prostate cancer, it can still be detected early through some screening work and clinical examination. Usually, patients suspected of having prostate cancer need to undergo the following three tests: 1. Rectal examination Since the prostate gland is close to the rectum, rectal examination can visually check whether there are nodules, size and texture of the prostate gland. PSA test Usually, people over 50 years old or over 45 years old with family history of prostate cancer should have regular PSA prostate-specific antigen test. The most important test is the transrectal prostate ultrasound, which can understand the presence, size and blood flow of the tumor, along with the psa and fingerprick. Although the MRI of prostate cannot diagnose whether you have prostate cancer or not, it can provide a corroborative evidence to the doctor to help him/her understand whether the prostate tumor has damaged the invasion of the bladder neck and whether the tumor has invaded the seminal vesicles behind the prostate. This is a very important measure to determine if surgery is possible. Warm tip: If any of the above three tests reveal any problems, the patient usually has to undergo a prostate puncture to confirm whether he has prostate cancer.
