A sore throat is not necessarily a novel coronavirus infection. According to the current case data, some patients with novel coronavirus infection may have a sore throat, but the diagnosis should not be based on this symptom alone. The typical symptoms of novel coronavirus infection are fever, malaise, dry cough, nasal congestion, runny nose, and diarrhea, but none of these symptoms are characteristic or diagnostic. However, if the patient has a history of significant prior epidemiologic exposure and presents with the above symptoms, novel coronavirus infection is highly suspected. Chest imaging and routine blood tests can be performed at the hospital, and further pathogenic testing is needed after suggesting viral infection, and a positive result will confirm the diagnosis.
