Does taking metronidazole in pregnancy have an effect

Metronidazole tablets are contraindicated in pregnant and lactating women, and taking metronidazole in pregnancy may have adverse effects on the fetus.
Metronidazole tablets have been shown to cause intrauterine deaths in animal studies and are also a carcinogen in rodents. Metronidazole rapidly crosses the placental barrier into fetal circulation, and there is a lack of in-depth comparative studies of metronidazole in pregnant women. Therefore, it should be avoided during the third trimester of pregnancy.
Metronidazole tablets are mainly used for anaerobic infections, intestinal and extra-intestinal amebiasis, and vaginal trichomoniasis. Adverse reactions such as nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness and urticaria may occur during use. It is contraindicated in pregnant and lactating women, children, patients with alcoholism, hypersensitivity to the components of metronidazole tablets. It is contraindicated in people with active central nervous system disorders and blood diseases.
Metronidazole tablets need to be used under medical supervision, not self-medication.
