The focus of autism language rehabilitation is on communication. The physician’s assessment focuses on the child’s willingness to communicate with others. Changes in the child’s mood and mastery of how to communicate with others are more important than building vocabulary. With the ability to communicate, language skills can be easily restored. Language reserve is also important. Initially, the child can be trained to remember the names of objects, and eventually the child will be able to express himself or herself as he or she wishes. Simple words do not mean that the child is recovering well, and doctors and parents should focus on training the child to express himself appropriately.
