A feeling of swelling in the ear is an early symptom of middle ear cancer, and in the advanced stage, there is significant pain. Middle ear cancer is a malignant cancer occurring in the middle ear, which accounts for 1.5% of ear tumors and 0.06% of whole body tumors. The following diseases are also causes of swelling in the ear: 1. Canker sores Canker sores are a kind of ear disease in which the ear is congested, the root of the ear is hot, swollen and painful, and the pus breaks out, similar to boils in the external ear canal. 2. Air pressure traumatic otitis media When there is a sudden change in atmospheric pressure, the eustachian tube does not open smoothly to regulate the pressure inside the tympanic cavity, thus causing damage to the tympanic cavity, similar to aseptic otitis media, called air pressure damage. Under normal circumstances, the eustachian tube opens momentarily during swallowing, yawning and nose blowing to keep the air pressure inside the tympanic chamber in balance with that outside. When there are pathological changes in the eustachian tube, such as cold, sinusitis, nasopharyngeal tumor, nasal polyps, deviated nasal septum, palatopharyngeal muscle paralysis and poor occlusion of the maxillary joint, or in sleep and coma, the eustachian tube loses its normal function of regulating air pressure, which is an intrinsic factor. Sudden huge changes in external air pressure, such as naval diving, air force lift and hyperbaric oxygen chamber treatment, etc., without good protective measures, pneumatic tympanic chamber injury can easily occur, which is an external factor. 3. Acute purulent otitis media Bacteria enter the drum choke and cause purulent infection, called acute purulent otitis media, mostly secondary to upper respiratory tract infection, and possibly some cases initially as a viral infection, and then bacteria invade. Commonly, they are Streptococcus haemolyticus, Staphylococcus aureus, type III pneumococcus and Proteus mirabilis. Most often seen in winter and spring, with blood disease, malnutrition, allergic reactions and heart and lung disease patients, nephritis, diabetes is easy to induce. According to statistics, the incidence rate of school-age children aged 5 to 16 years is as high as 3%, and up to 5% to 10% for those under 5 years old, and sometimes it can recur several times. The incidence rate of Eskimos and American Indians is much higher than that of whites. Whether this is due to racial genes or living conditions has not been determined. 4. Chronic suppurative otitis media Where acute suppurative otitis media is improperly treated, bacterial toxicity is too strong, the body’s resistance is too weak or it is complicated by mastoiditis, so that the pus continues to flow for more than 1 to 2 months, it is called chronic suppurative otitis media. The incidence of this disease is high, domestic census in recent years more than a thousand elementary school students, the incidence becomes 0.5% to 4.3%, Shandong, Henan, Guizhou Province survey farmers incidence rate of 1.6%. The incidence rate of 0.9% in elementary school students in the UK survey. Affected people are mostly young adults, and rarely occur after the age of 40.
