How to Rehabilitate an Ankle Fracture After Surgery

Post-operative rehabilitation training for ankle fracture needs to be carried out gradually under the guidance of professional doctors, mainly including muscle strength training, ankle mobility training and standing balance stability training. 1.1~2 weeks: elevate the affected limb, apply ice and other treatments to control edema; start active joint mobility training 1~3 days after surgery, including flexion and extension of hip, knee, ankle and interphalangeal joints; straight-leg elevation training in all planes and directions, prone backward extension, lateral lateral adduction, supine forward flexion, adduction or abduction and so on; gait practice without weight bearing under the protection of auxiliary tools. 2.3~4th week: carry out ankle joint active and passive mobility exercises, gradually increase the training intensity. 3. Weeks 5~8: Strengthen the ankle joint mobility training, and progressively carry out weight-bearing training; lower limb muscle strength training, including isometric exercises for peripheral ankle muscle groups and progressive resistance exercises, intramuscular grasping exercises, etc.; carry out enhancement of bilateral proprioception training, and maintain balance training on vibration plates and proprioception plates. 4.9~12 weeks: half squatting training, heel lifting training and up and down step exercises can be carried out. 5. After 12 weeks: patients gradually increase the exercise volume, resistance and training intensity. It is recommended that the patient under the guidance of a professional doctor for treatment, do not blindly self-training to avoid adverse consequences.
