What to do about children’s stuffy nose

Nasal congestion, i.e. poor ventilation through the nose, can be unilateral or bilateral. Depending on the cause, it can be persistent, intermittent, alternating or progressive aggravation. For adults, it is only a minor problem, but when a small baby has nasal congestion symptoms, a more troublesome thing is that it will affect the baby’s feeding, breathing and sleep, and requires scientific treatment and care according to the cause. Pediatric nasal congestion, many parents always think that the child has a cold, but in fact, it may also be allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, adenoid hypertrophy, tonsillar enlargement, nasal foreign body, nasal polyps, nasal septum deviation, etc.. Cold is the most common cause of nasal congestion in babies, you can use a warm wet towel to warm the nose, or use physiological sea salt water to spray the nose, and timely removal of nasal secretions. In addition to nasal symptoms such as nasal congestion, runny nose and open-mouth breathing, acute sinusitis can be accompanied by fever, headache, sore throat and irritability in severe cases. You need to apply effective antibiotics, mucus promoters, etc. When there is a lot of purulent nasal discharge, you can go to the hospital for replacement therapy to remove the purulent secretions from the sinuses. Babies are curious, sometimes they will stuff small toys such as buttons, small foods such as peanuts and sunflower seeds into the nasal cavity, and after stuffing them, they cannot get them out themselves, so the foreign body will stay in the nasal cavity. Most of the nasal cavity is blocked on one side, poor ventilation; if secondary infection occurs, the mucus gradually becomes purulent; if the foreign body stays too long, it can make the nasal mucosa erosion, grow granules, bleeding nasal discharge, and emit a foul odor, and the baby is found to have this condition, it needs to go to the hospital to remove the foreign body. Allergic rhinitis often manifests as nasal congestion, sneezing, with symptoms of conjunctivitis, and can be given local or take systemic anti-allergy treatment under the guidance of a physician. Adenoid hypertrophy is often accompanied by enlarged tonsils, causing nasal congestion, open-mouth breathing and snoring, especially at night when sleeping, which may require surgery. If the child has a long term nasal congestion, it may be caused by nasal polyp or deviated septum, and medication or surgery will be performed depending on the severity. According to the different causes of nasal congestion, scientific care and treatment, most nasal congestion can be successfully cured, a small number of nasal congestion is not caused by the cold, need to be treated under the guidance of a physician.
