There is a standard for the amount of topical ointment, i.e., fingertip unit: One fingertip unit is the amount of ointment or cream that is squeezed out and covered from the tip of the index finger to the first interphalangeal joint, which is equivalent to one gram of ointment dose. One fingertip unit is sufficient to cover an area the size of two palms on the body surface. Therefore, two fingertip units are sufficient to cover four palm-sized areas of skin. One fingertip unit will cover approximately 2% of the body surface area. When applying ointment, do not apply a lot of thick ointment because of the eagerness to cure the disease, which will not be absorbed but cause waste. Like hormonal creams, if you keep smearing too much, it may lead to local hair growth and other adverse reactions.
