Set training: For intermittent exotropia, set training can be tried. Lens treatment: Many children with strabismus can be treated with lenses. The close relationship between accommodation and strabismus shows that hyperopic eyes are prone to internal strabismus and myopic eyes are prone to exotropia. In addition, good visual acuity is the basis for normal retinal correspondence and joint fixation of the two eyes, and different vision can also cause strabismus and amblyopia. It can be seen that strabismus and amblyopia are closely related to refractive abnormalities, so dilated eye examinations are the first step in the examination of strabismus in children. Wearing glasses to correct refractive error is an important method to treat strabismus in children. Children with high hyperopic refractive error strabismus, especially at the age of 2 to 3 years old, are treated especially effectively with hyperopic corrective glasses, and wearing suitable glasses can correct the eye’s over-adjustment and restore the convergence force to normal. Optometry for children with strabismus must be performed only after adequate ciliary muscle paralysis, i.e., after adequate pupil dilatation, because children’s ciliary muscles are very powerful and have strong adjustment ability, which can easily mask the true refraction due to adjustment, especially for hyperopic refractive errors, and optometry without dilating the pupil is inaccurate. Another reason why children with strabismus need dilated pupils is that many children with strabismus have combined amblyopia, a small percentage of which is caused by strabismus, and most of which is caused by a combination of refractive error or refractive error or both. Treatment of strabismus requires treatment of amblyopia, and the primary method of examination and treatment of amblyopia is also dilated optometry and lens prescription. Spectacles are not a universal prescription for strabismus. For some strabismus, good treatment results can be obtained. For strabismus patients with larger degrees of hyperopia, optometry and prescription can be done around 1 year old or even earlier. In some cases, early treatment is also very effective. However, prescription lenses can only be effective for some strabismus. After a period of treatment with glasses, you should see a doctor for a follow-up, and if the treatment is not effective, you should switch to surgery in due course.
