The only typical symptom of idiopathic tremor is tremor, occasionally accompanied by abnormalities in tone of voice and slight gait. Patients first usually start with the upper extremities, which are primarily affected, but can also affect the muscles of the head, legs, trunk and face. It manifests as postural tremor. There may be a family history. The frequency decreases and the amplitude increases with age. Patients tend to feel tremors in the body for the first few months, followed by brief tremors with activity during excitement or fatigue, and then the tremors persist.
