What’s wrong with babies who spit up a lot?

Frequent spitting up in infants can be considered as physiologic and pathologic factors, with physiologic factors commonly associated with improper feeding. Pathologic factors can be considered as indigestion, gastroesophageal reflux and other diseases.
1. Physiological factors: due to frequent breastfeeding, it is easy to cause babies to spit up because of too much milk in the stomach; when babies cry during breastfeeding, it leads to too much gas in the stomach, and it is very easy to spit up after eating milk, so we should pay attention to the amount of breastfeeding and the way and method of feeding babies.
2. Pathological factors:
(1) indigestion: most infants’ gastrointestinal tracts are not well developed, and it is not easy to digest breastmilk or milk powder after eating; also, adding complementary foods at an inappropriate stage for infants can trigger indigestion and lead to spitting up in infants.
(2) Gastroesophageal reflux: some infants are not well developed, especially at the cardia, so when they take in a lot of milk, the cardia muscle can not contract in time, which leads to the reflux of milk from the stomach to the esophagus, and spitting up occurs.
