How to self-diagnose alopecia areata?

First of all, let’s understand some general knowledge about hair growth. There are about 100,000 hairs growing on our scalp. Daily washing, combing, unconsciously stroking hair, outdoor wind blowing, etc. can make the hair lose about 70~100 hairs. The hair is located in the scalp in the root expansion part we call hair follicle, each hair follicle uninterruptedly through the three stages of growth phase, regression phase, resting phase. Normally 85% of the hair follicles are in the anagen phase of 3-8 years and 15% are in the resting phase of 3-4 months. Since the regression phase is very short, only 2~3 weeks, most of the 70~100 hairs shed per day are resting hairs with fine diameter. Since the growth and shedding of individual hair follicles are not synchronized, it is difficult to notice the daily hair shedding except for some hairs seen on the shampoo basin or bathroom floor. If others or you notice that your hair is getting thinner and thinner, then you should pay attention. Of course, hair thinning is not always caused by hair loss, some hair diseases can lead to hair breakage, the appearance of hair can also be thinning.
