Wisdom teeth have dental nerves. Wisdom teeth belong to the third molar in humans. Although the number, shape and growth direction of wisdom teeth vary from person to person, like other teeth, wisdom teeth have dentin, pulp and enamel. Therefore, wisdom teeth also have nerves. If wisdom teeth become decayed and lead to pulpitis, it may cause severe pain to the patient. Generally many wisdom teeth do not grow upright, and these are called blocked teeth. In addition to decay, pulpitis and pain, an obstructed tooth may also cause recurrent swelling and inflammation of the surrounding soft tissues. This leads to pericoronitis of the wisdom tooth and even infection of the facial space, which can lead to facial swelling and even fever. Therefore, patients who have wisdom teeth with pain and other discomforts are advised to seek prompt medical attention and have them removed as soon as possible.
