It is okay for a woman to consider getting a Down screening test directly after her pregnancy is established without having an nt. This is because the nt test is not 100% mandatory, as long as the Down’s syndrome screening is done on time. Usually, in the third trimester of pregnancy, a woman needs to have a comprehensive checkup, and it is not necessary to have a nt test to see the nasal bone and cervical transparency of the fetus, because the nt test is also done to rule out the possibility of having a Down’s child. The results of the screening will determine whether the baby is at risk for Down’s syndrome and whether further testing and treatment is needed. If the test is normal, there is usually no need for any other tests. If the test is not normal, then an amniocentesis or a non-invasive DNA test is required. The non-invasive DNA test is usually the first choice because it is not invasive, while amniocentesis is not the first choice because it is invasive and may cause serious complications such as miscarriage or intrauterine infection. Therefore, women can have Down screening directly without NT, which has no effect on the normal maternity checkups during the card-building period.
