Do you need to be hospitalized for T-tube removal of choledocholithiasis?

After choledochal stone surgery, if T-tube angiography shows that the bile duct is clear, T-tube removal does not require hospitalization; if bile duct stones are found, hospitalization is required.
Choledocholithiasis is mainly treated by surgery, preferred choledochotomy for stone removal and T-tube drainage. During the operation, the choledochotomy should be cut, attention should be paid to try to take out all the stones, to release the biliary obstruction, and the T-tube should be left in the postoperative period to keep the bile drainage smooth, to reduce the risk of biliary fistulae, biliary tract infections, and other diseases in the postoperative period.
Generally, before removing the T-tube after surgery, patients with choledocholithiasis need to be examined by cholangiography, and if there is no re-obstruction and other lesions, then the T-tube will be removed, and this operation can be performed in the outpatient clinic, without hospitalization.
If cholangiography reveals that the bile duct is not smooth or there are stones left behind, infection, etc., choledochoscopy and stone removal should be performed after the formation of the fibrous sinus tract, and this process needs to be completed in the hospital.
Patients with choledocholithiasis should consult a medical professional for T-tube removal after surgery.
