Myths of children’s oral health care

Is it useful to take calcium supplements after the teeth have erupted? Is it useful to take calcium supplements after the teeth have erupted? It is important to know when the calcification of the enamel on the tooth surface is completed. Teeth develop through three stages: anagenesis, calcification and eruption. The formation of all hard tissues of milk teeth starts in the fetal period and is completed within one year after birth at the latest. The permanent teeth, except for the six-year-old teeth, have a small portion of cusp calcification in the newborn, but the rest begin to calcify after birth, and by about 7 or 8 years of age, the enamel of all permanent tooth crowns except the third permanent molar has been calcified. Therefore, the calcification of enamel is completed before the teeth erupt. Moreover, the calcification of tooth enamel starts from the outside to the inside, and the enamel on the surface of permanent teeth is already calcified by the age of three. Therefore, oral calcium supplementation after the teeth erupt has little effect on the erupted teeth, but can have an effect on the tooth germ that is in the stage of enamel calcification. For your child to have well-developed teeth, calcium supplementation should start during pregnancy, pay attention to balanced nutrition, strengthen resistance, and prevent systemic diseases, especially viral infections, especially within the age of three. In addition, chronic apical inflammation and dental trauma in milk teeth can also affect the calcification of enamel in permanent teeth and should be treated early. Why is there often a gap after the eruption of the front teeth? It is normal to have a gap of about one millimeter between the first two incisors (central incisors) of the upper jaw, which is often called the ugly duckling stage when children are 6-8 years old. If there is still a large gap after the neighboring teeth have erupted, it is time to seek orthodontic treatment. The gap between the incisors is related to the following reasons: 1. The position of the upper lip tether is too low. After the two incisors have erupted, they will be pulled by the labial tether and a gap will appear between the two teeth. 2, there are extra teeth between the two teeth. The extra teeth are often sandwiched between the two incisors or grow out together, or buried in the bone of the dental bed. For the latter, it can be detected by radiographs. If there is a gap between the incisors caused by a low position of the upper lip tether, the tether can be surgically relocated and the gap can be slowly closed. For gaps caused by redundant teeth, orthodontic treatment should be performed after the removal of the redundant teeth according to the specific situation. In addition, it is normal for newly erupted incisors to have small serrations. With age, the small serrations of incisors will gradually wear out and flatten with long-term use. Why should children have regular oral examinations? Generally parents bring their children to the hospital for examination, we often check whether there are caries in the child’s mouth, whether the facial development is normal, whether there are abnormalities in the soft tissue and development to reflect the oral condition of the child, these aspects, no matter which aspect is the best for early detection, early diagnosis and early treatment, so parents are generally recommended to come to the hospital for examination regularly, the time interval is generally 3-6 months, then why? Why? 1.Caries in milk teeth have the characteristics of high rate, early onset, multiple occurrence, wide range, fast development, and unobvious self-conscious symptoms, so we should detect and treat early, which not only saves time and effort, but also reduces medical expenses and the number of visits and pains of children. 2, dental and maxillofacial deformities are also early detection and early treatment, the best treatment effect, otherwise not only affect the chewing function, reduce nutrient absorption, directly lead to the development of children with deformities, affecting facial beauty.
