Is a tickling throat and cough a new type of pneumonia?

Patients with novel coronavirus pneumonia may present with symptoms of itchy throat and cough, but such symptoms alone do not confirm the diagnosis. This is because they are not characteristic and are very similar to symptoms caused by other pathogenic infections. Patients with a history of epidemiologic exposure who develop these symptoms are advised to first be isolated at home alone with proper rest and nutrient supplementation. However, if symptoms do not resolve in the following days and symptoms such as fever, general malaise, loss of appetite, muscle aches and respiratory distress develop, prompt medical attention should be sought at fever clinics around the country. People who meet the symptoms of suspected viral infections are required to undergo free pathogenic testing, and a positive result will confirm the diagnosis.
