If your thyroid hormone is high, you should follow the doctor’s instructions to take medication to treat the primary cause of the disease and develop good living habits. 1. Treatment of primary diseases: the primary diseases that cause high thyroid hormone include hypothyroidism, subclinical hypothyroidism, central hyperthyroidism and other diseases. (1) Hypothyroidism: If thyroid stimulating hormone is elevated while triiodothyronine and thyroxine are lowered, the patient is considered to be suffering from primary hypothyroidism and should take levothyroxine (L-T4) regularly as prescribed by the doctor. (2) Subclinical hypothyroidism: If thyrotropin is high but triiodothyronine and thyroxine are normal, the patient is considered to be suffering from subclinical hypothyroidism, and if the serum thyrotropin is ≥10 mIU/L, L-T4 is needed for treatment. (3) Central hyperthyroidism: if the elevation of thyroid stimulating hormone is accompanied by the elevation of triiodothyronine and thyroxine, then the patient is considered to have central hyperthyroidism, which should be treated with antithyroid drugs (ATD), radioactive iodine, and surgery. 2. Adopt good living habits: patients should quit smoking and drinking, and pay attention to rest. Patients are advised to go to the hospital to check the cause of high thyroid stimulating hormone so as not to delay the treatment, and not to take medication without authorization.
