What’s wrong with swollen gums?

Swollen gums can be caused by plaque or calculus, food impaction and mouth breathing on the one hand, and wisdom teeth pericoronitis or periapical inflammation on the other.
1. Plaque or calculus, food impaction and mouth breathing factors: plaque is the direct cause of gingivitis, plaque for a long time to be mineralized into tartar, stimulation of the gums lead to inflammation, usually manifested as bleeding gums, gingival papillae bright red or dark red, accompanied by itching, swelling and bad breath, etc., so there will be a swollen gums.
2. Wisdom tooth pericoronitis: generally refers to inflammation of the soft tissues around the crown of the tooth, which is mainly manifested as swelling and pain of the gums, and restriction of mouth opening. It is mainly due to the formation of a blind pocket between the gingival flap and the crown during the eruption process of wisdom teeth, which causes inflammatory reaction of the local soft tissues due to food and bacterial embeddedness or damage of the gingival tissues due to chewing of food, resulting in swelling and pain in the gingiva around the wisdom teeth.
3. Periapical inflammation: usually refers to the inflammatory disease that occurs in the tissues around the root tip of the tooth. The causes of periapical inflammation are more varied, mainly due to bacterial infections and local stimuli such as trauma, resulting in damage to the periapical tissues. When there is inflammation in the pulp, the inflammatory material overflows from the apical foramen, which will further cause inflammation of the periapical tissues, and there will be tooth biting pain, recurrent swelling of the gum tissues and other manifestations so the gums will swell.
If the symptoms of swollen gums have not been relieved, it is recommended to go to the hospital in time, usually pay attention to avoid eating spicy food.
