The standard formula for Xiaoqinglong Tang is ephedra (removed from the joints), peony, finesse, dry ginger, licorice (roasted), cinnamon sticks (peeled), schizandra, and half-summer (washed). Xiao Qing Long Tang has the effects of relieving exterior cold and dispersing cold (removing cold from the muscle surface), warming the lungs and resolving drinking (promoting the flow of stagnant fluid by warming the lungs). It is used for treating the symptoms of external cold and internal drinking. Symptoms include malignant cold (fear of cold), fever, headache, no sweating, wheezing and coughing, scanty and copious sputum, chest congestion, dry vomiting, or phlegm-drinking (a pathological product of impaired metabolism of water) wheezing and coughing, and inability to lie down. As this formula contains many warm and dry products, it should not be used in patients with dry cough without phlegm or phlegm-heat syndrome of yin deficiency. If there is any discomfort, prompt medical attention is recommended. If medication is needed, it should be diagnosed by a doctor and regulated according to the doctor’s prescription.
