ECMO refers to extracorporeal membrane pulmonary oxygenation cycle with CRRT values for continuous renal replacement therapy.
ECMO is an effective circulatory adjunct to rapidly improve hypoxemia and circulatory status in patients with decompensated cardiac insufficiency. ECMO circulatory support is indicated for patients with acute or chronic cardiac insufficiency of various causes who are unable to maintain effective circulation through pharmacologic therapy, and who require mechanical circulatory assistance in order to seek further treatment, if necessary.
CRRT is indicated for life-threatening volume overload unresponsive to diuretics. Examples include acute pulmonary edema, severe hyperkalemia (> 6.5 mmol/L) or rapidly rising potassium with cardiotoxicity, and severe metabolic acidosis (pH < 7.1).
