Arthritis belongs to the category of “paralysis” in Chinese medicine, and the prescriptions for treating paralysis in Chinese medicine include Fangfeng Tang, Wu Tou Tang, Coix Seed Tang, Bai Hu Gui Zhi Tang, and Nourishing Blood and Rong Tendon Pill. The specific medication should follow the doctor’s instructions.
1. Wind-cold-dampness type: for wind-cold type, there are soreness and pain in joints of limbs, wandering, unfavorable flexion and extension of joints (abnormal function of joints’ stretching and bending), and malignant wind and fever, Fangfeng Tang is used, which consists of Fangfeng, Gui Zhi, Ge Ge Ge, Poria, etc.; for those who have severe pain, Wu Tou Tang is used, which consists of Chuanwu, Paeonia lactiflora, Glycyrrhiza.
For those favoring rheumatism, with heavy, aching and swollen joints of the limbs, Coix Seed Soup is used, consisting of Job’s Tear, Cangzhu, and so on. Note that allergy to the above components of the drug is prohibited.
2. Rheumatism-heat type: it is caused by the feeling of rheumatism-heat, manifested by joint pain, localized burning, redness and swelling, which will be relieved when it is cooled, accompanied by fever, thirst, boredom and restlessness, and it is treated with Bai Hu Gui Zhi Tang, which is made up of gypsum, motherwort, cypress, cinnamon sticks, and so on. Note that this formula is forbidden to those who are allergic to its ingredients.
3. Liver and Kidney Deficiency: caused by insufficiency of the liver and kidneys (weakness of the liver and kidneys) and loss of nourishment of the tendons and veins, manifesting as unfavorable flexion and extension of the joints, thin and weak muscles, lumbar and knee soreness and limpness (feeling of soreness and weakness of the lumbar and knee) or fear of cold and limb coldness, and impotence and spermatorrhea. Note that it is contraindicated for those who are allergic to the constituents of this formula.
Paralysis patients need to go to the hospital in time, under the guidance of the doctor to standardize the treatment, individuals should not take medication on their own, so as not to delay the condition.
