The four stages of periodontal disease treatment

The treatment of periodontal disease is a systematic process and is generally divided into four stages of treatment: Stage 1: Basic treatment. It is the treatment for the cause, which is the removal of plaque and tartar, the factors that cause inflammation, mainly through supragingival scaling (scaling), subgingival scaling and root planing, scaling is only the first step in periodontal treatment. Stage 2: Surgical treatment. After controlling the inflammation, in order to address some of the soft and hard tissue defects that occur due to the disease, the gingival flap can be turned over and the infected tissue can be thoroughly removed under direct vision, and the shape of the gums and bone can be corrected by implanting autologous bone or bone replacement material and biofilm in order to obtain regeneration of the periodontal tissue. Stage 3: Restorative orthodontic treatment. For missing teeth caused by periodontal disease, they are treated by restorative means. Orthodontic treatment is also provided for those with misaligned or misaligned teeth in order to establish a stable balanced fit. Phase 4: Maintenance treatment. Maintaining the efficacy of treatment mainly through regular review is an indispensable part of a regular periodontal systemic treatment plan, which is a prerequisite for the long-term maintenance of periodontal efficacy.
