Bunion is a condition in which the upper jaw is overdeveloped or the lower jaw is underdeveloped, resulting in a pronounced forward extension of the upper jaw and retraction of the lower jaw. The occlusal relationship of the circumcision is often accompanied by small jaw deformity. It is recommended that patients with circumcision should take intervention as soon as possible and go to regular hospitals for corrective treatment in time. There are various methods of maxillary protrusion correction surgery, such as maxillary anterior osteotomy and maxillary LeFort I osteotomy. Different correction methods may bring different risks, which should be noted: 1. Palatal mucosa penetration injury: If maxillary anterior osteotomy is used, due to the thicker bone wall in the middle suture area of the hard palate, the bone resistance is mostly in this area, while the bone plates of both sides of the hard palate are relatively thin, and the rough operation of the osteotomy process or the sharp instrument osteotomy may cause the palatal mucosa penetration injury. In addition, if the root of the tooth is damaged during the operation, it can lead to postoperative tooth discoloration, pulp necrosis, or even loosening and detachment; 2. Bleeding and fracture: If maxillary LeFort Ⅰ osteotomy is used, the common risks include intraoperative hemorrhage, fracture, and widening of the base of the nose. If the surgical osteotomy is too deep, the palatal descending artery can be damaged or the wing plate can be broken, which can lead to bleeding; 3. Poor bone healing as well as functional damage. Therefore, patients should choose regular hospitals and have standardized surgical operations performed by experienced physicians, which can effectively prevent complications.
