Where is the sternum located

The sternum is mainly located in the middle of the anterior thoracic wall and is an irregular flat bone with a wide top and narrow bottom, convex front and concave back shape, mainly consisting of the sternal stalk, sternal body and saber. Together with the ribs and the posterior vertebrae, the sternum forms the bony scaffold of the thorax, which protects the organs in the thoracic cavity, especially the lungs and the heart. If the sternum is fractured after trauma, it is easy to cause significant pain and swelling in the anterior chest wall, and also easy to cause damage to the thoracic organs, resulting in hemopneumothorax.
