Now there are many patients in the clinic, influenced by some unscientific advertising, unwilling to accept surgical treatment, but expect to eliminate the tumor through the gamma knife. As a result, money is not spent, the disease is not cured, but also delayed. Gamma knife treatment for lung cancer has strict indications and is not a substitute for surgery, and is by no means the preferred treatment. Surgery is the core of lung cancer treatment. Gamma knife is a kind of radiotherapy, and there are two types of treatment for lung cancer. One is the gamma knife in the traditional sense, which is used to treat lung cancer brain metastases; the other is the body gamma knife, which is used to treat primary lung cancer and extracranial lung cancer metastases such as liver and kidney. They both target inoperable and relatively limited, single, and small-sized cancer foci, such as brain metastases located in deep intracranial or important functional areas that are difficult to be removed surgically, less than three, and the maximum diameter is less than 3.5 cm; primary lung cancer whose physical condition cannot accept surgery, less than three, and the maximum diameter is less than 6 cm. Some patients with large size and number of cancer tumors, other treatments are difficult or ineffective, can also try to treat in stages through the body gamma knife for different parts. In contrast, large tumor size, diffuse multiple metastases and malignant mass, serious damage to important organ functions, inability to maintain a flat or prone position, pleural effusion that cannot be easily controlled, the proposed treatment site has received a sufficient amount of radiotherapy, and obvious hematological system dysfunction after long-term radiotherapy are contraindications to gamma knife treatment. Gamma knife is to destroy the tumor cells with radiation, no matter how precise, it can not remove the lesion and reconstruct the function of tissues and organs at the same time, like surgery. Therefore, Gamma Knife must be applied under the premise of strictly abiding by the basic principle and general rule of lung cancer treatment, which is “surgery as the mainstay and individualized treatment by a combination of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, targeted therapy and traditional Chinese medicine”. Patients with lung cancer must not be superstitious about the Gamma Knife, but must be operated on in time if they can.
