Adverse effects after radiotherapy for hypopharyngeal carcinoma

Adverse reactions after radiotherapy for hypopharyngeal cancer are mainly complications, including dry mouth, difficulty in swallowing and other uncomfortable symptoms. 1. Dry mouth: the process of radiotherapy destroys the surrounding salivary glands while killing cancer cells, and the secretion of saliva is reduced, resulting in dry mouth. 2. Difficulty in swallowing: due to the presence of dry mouth and serious damage to mucous membrane of oropharynx, dysphagia will occur. 3. Others: as radiotherapy will also cause damage to surrounding normal tissues, other symptoms such as bone marrow suppression, muscle stiffness, skin necrosis and even nerve pain may occur. In the course of radiotherapy for hypopharyngeal cancer, products that moisturize the skin can be used protectively, while the related toxic side effects should be closely monitored. If serious complications occur, radiotherapy should be stopped promptly.
