At what age does appendicitis occur

Appendicitis can occur at any age, but the incidence in infants and children before the age of 6 is still very low. Appendicitis is most common in patients between the ages of 20 and 40, especially in men than in women. In the elderly, the appendix narrows due to the weakening of organs and physiological functions, and undigested food entering the appendiceal canal becomes blocked, easily causing bacterial infections and making appendicitis very likely to occur. The symptoms of appendicitis are similar regardless of the age difference, mainly pain in the right lower abdomen, fever and vomiting, and the treatment is considered to be mainly surgical, while some will choose conservative treatment. In case of severe pain in the abdomen, perforation of the appendix, impaction or ineffective conservative treatment, early surgery is necessary to avoid other complications.
