What is kf ring

K-F rings are unique to the eye of patients with hepatomegaly. 1-3 mm brown, green, or red bands appear in the posterior elastic layer of the peripheral cornea, which can be present throughout the entire cornea as a full ring, or halfway around the cornea as a half ring, starting mostly in the upper part of the cornea. The corneal colored bands are caused by copper deposits in the posterior elastic layer. Patients with hepatomegaly may also develop characteristic cataracts, which typically appear as sunflower-like cataracts with copper deposits in the anterior and posterior capsule. In addition to ocular manifestations, patients with hepatomegaly have cirrhosis, renal damage, and neurological dysfunction, with no specific treatment in ophthalmology.
