”Why can’t I get an erection when I want to?” These are the most common words that patients with erectile dysfunction ask their doctors. The causes of erectile dysfunction fall into two broad categories: psychogenic and organic. Today I am not going to discuss these medical causes with you, but just to talk about why you can’t get an erection when you “really want to”. The erection of a normal person is arbitrary, and the penis naturally fills with blood and swells when the sexual desire is aroused. However, patients with erectile dysfunction are often unable to complete this natural process. At this point, some people are anxious, some are downhearted, and some are deliberately avoiding it. When they do need an erection, these patients do often try very “hard” to get one, but they can’t. Why? Why? At this point we might want to go back and think about the normal erection process. Does a normal person think about how to achieve an erection during the erection process? Obviously not! A normal person is filled with passionate images during sexual arousal, not thinking about how to achieve an erection. To put it bluntly, thinking about how to get an erection does not give you an erection, thinking about a woman does. When dealing with erectile dysfunction, we usually tell patients to relax, try hard to have sex, and have confidence and normalcy in the treatment process. Thinking hard about getting an erection or thinking about how to get an erection is actually a form of stress that can affect erection or ejaculation. Therefore, you need to be careful to maintain a normal state of mind during the treatment process, which will be beneficial in restoring an erection. To achieve a natural and full erection, you should first put down the psychological baggage and let the erection return to its natural nature, so that the erection can come with the sex.
