What diseases can be caused by high urinary protein

High proteinuria can lead to infections, thromboembolic disease, malnutrition and other diseases. High urine protein should consider whether it is physiological or pathological, if it is physiological, then do not worry too much, usually temporary elevation of urine protein, will not cause related complications. If it’s pathologic, it’s more likely to be caused by acute and chronic glomerulonephritis, diabetic nephropathy and other diseases.

Regarding physiological high urine protein, it is usually mild and temporary, which may be caused by too much tension, overwork, etc. Generally, removing the causative factors and taking more rest can restore normal, and generally will not lead to related complications.

If the urine protein is pathologically high, most of them are related to impaired renal function, such as acute and chronic glomerulonephritis, diabetic nephropathy, lupus nephritis, multiple myeloma nephropathy and other renal diseases, it will lead to abnormal renal function, and proteins will be filtered out of the glomerulus, which will lead to excessive protein in the urine.

Excessive leakage of urinary protein will lead to a decrease in albumin in the body, resulting in immune dysfunction and triggering infections; due to the loss of protein from the urine, hepatic compensatory synthesis of protein increases, causing an imbalance in the body’s coagulation, anticoagulation, and fibrinolytic systems, which predisposes to the risk of thromboembolic disorders; too much protein leakage can lead to hypoproteinemia, malnutrition, and so on.

When patients have high urine protein, they should go to the hospital in time to find out the cause and definitive treatment.
