In January 2010, Bao’an District was awarded the plaque of “National Cataract-free District” after verification and evaluation of several indicators by Guangdong Disabled Persons’ Federation. The Bao’an District Vision Rehabilitation Center was established in the Ophthalmology Department of Bao’an District People’s Hospital. 1. Free cataract screening once a year: the Baoan District People’s Hospital together with the Baoan Disabled Persons’ Federation organizes on-site rapid screening in each street, and provides advice and treatment guidance.
2. Cataract surgery for local residents is included in the social security medical system, which means that they can swipe their social security cards and enjoy social security benefits.
3. While enjoying social security, Baoan District Disabled Persons’ Federation and each street also has a special cataract surgery subsidy. For patients who receive cataract surgery in our hospital, we will fill out the “Cataract Restoration Registration Form” for patients when they are discharged from the hospital, so that they can apply for the surgery subsidy. In fact, the calculation shows that simple cataract surgery for residents of Baoan District does not require any out-of-pocket expenses if they choose ordinary crystals.
