Pericoronitis of the wisdom tooth is a very common clinical condition. If the condition has caused swelling, it means that wisdom tooth pericoronitis has developed to an acute stage and has caused significant swelling in the cheek. In this case, the treatment needs to be localized in combination with systemic treatment. Locally, we usually apply hydrogen peroxide combined with saline under pressure syringe to flush the blind pocket around the wisdom tooth to clean the food residue and bacteria around the wisdom tooth, so that the pus can be better drained, and then apply iodine glycerin around the wisdom tooth for disinfection and astringency. For systemic medication, we usually apply cephalosporins in combination with nitroimidazoles to prevent further spread of the infection throughout the body. In most cases, after a period of treatment, the symptoms of wisdom tooth inflammation are significantly relieved. However, if significant pus is identified in the surrounding space, then a facial incision and drainage should be performed in the corresponding low submaxillary area, which is the fastest way to make the swelling go away.
