After a fracture, due to bleeding at the broken end of the bone, the local area can swell rapidly, making it difficult to reset the fracture. If the swelling is not eliminated in time, it will affect the blood circulation and nutrient supply of the limb and eventually affect the repair and healing of the trauma. If the serious swelling of the limb makes the pressure in the tissue close to the arterial blood pressure, it will affect the blood supply and make the limb ischemic, which will cause serious disability of the limb. It can be seen that the timely and correct treatment of swelling is very important. Therefore, the fracture should be sent to the hospital as soon as possible and reset in time. If the swelling of the limb after fracture is serious, or even the superficial vascular pulsation of the limb disappears, for those with external fixation, the tightness of the external fixation should be checked first, and if necessary, the external fixation can be temporarily removed for observation; for those with internal fixation, the surgical wound should be carefully checked for active bleeding or compression caused by factors such as hematoma, and if necessary, the surgical wound should be reopened to stop bleeding or remove the hematoma. If for various reasons the patient cannot be sent to hospital in time for treatment, the swelling will be very serious by the time the patient arrives at the hospital, and some skin blisters will appear, so that the reset will again aggravate the tissue damage and make the swelling more serious, and it may even happen that the swollen tissue will compress the blood vessels and make the limb ischemic, causing the very serious consequence of limb necrosis. Therefore, if the swelling of the limb is too serious, the doctor can temporarily fix the limb with a plaster brace, or use traction or elevation of the affected limb to treat the swelling first, and only after the swelling has subsided can further resetting, fixation or surgery be considered. It is important to emphasize that when the swelling of the limb is serious, do not push and massage, otherwise it will aggravate the injury and cause serious adverse consequences, and sometimes even have to amputate the limb.
