Diabetes mellitus belongs to the category of “thirst” in Chinese medicine. According to Chinese medicine, this disease is characterized by excessive eating, drinking, urination, gradual loss of weight or cloudy urine, and sweet taste of urine due to Yin deficiency and dry heat and weakness of the five organs. The location of the disease is mainly in the lung, spleen, stomach and kidney, with the kidney being the most important. In Chinese medicine, the disease is divided into three stages, namely “upper, middle and lower extinction”. According to the characteristics of the disease mechanism of “Yin deficiency as the basis and dryness and heat as the symptoms”, the treatment is based on benefiting Qi and generating fluid, clearing heat and moistening dryness, and activating blood circulation and removing stasis in cases of stasis. In the treatment, we selected a Chinese herbal formula based on the characteristics of diabetes mellitus, including Radix et Rhizoma Ginseng, Radix Panax Ginseng and Radix et Rhizoma Polygoni, to assist the treatment process of hypoglycemic drugs, and the patient’s blood glucose could be stabilized in the normal range after taking it for a period of time, and some patients could also reduce the dosage of hypoglycemic drugs. The effect is satisfactory.
