In the case of a syphilis review, the most common scenario is when a syphilis patient is on regular antibiotic therapy and the doctor reviews the patient’s titer in order to see how it has changed since the antibiotics were applied. In the review, the doctor focuses on the syphilis patient’s non-specific antibody test, also known as the titer. In hospitals, the two tests used are the RPR or TRUST test. However, patients need to be aware that there are many hospitals in China that do not take the non-specific antibody test as a separate test. In many primary care hospitals, syphilis specific antibodies and syphilis non-specific antibodies are bundled together for testing. Therefore, when the patient is retested, the test items may still be the same as the first test, i.e. syphilis-specific and non-specific antibodies are tested together.
