Babies with the umbilical cord wrapped around the neck twice may suffer from hypoxia and need to be managed more closely during pregnancy.
Umbilical cord around the neck refers to the umbilical cord wrapping around the neck of the fetus, which can be related to the excessive length of the umbilical cord, excessive amniotic fluid and frequent fetal movements. When the umbilical cord is wrapped around the neck twice, the umbilical cord may be pulled or pressurized during contractions, which may block the blood circulation of the fetus and cause fetal hypoxia. Pregnant women with a two-ring umbilical cord should strengthen their pregnancy management, strictly count the fetal movements and increase the number of checkups.
If the labor progresses smoothly and the fetal heartbeat is normal, the trial of labor can be continued vaginally. However, when fetal heart rate monitoring indicates that there is an abnormality, which cannot be relieved by oxygen intake and position change, cesarean section should be carried out in a timely manner.
