It is forbidden to take it in solid and hot cases; and should not be applied alone in cases of positive deficiency and solid evil. Maitong is a yin tonic with the effects of nourishing yin and clearing the lungs (getting rid of lung-heat by nourishing the fluid in the lungs), benefiting the stomach and generating fluids (nourishing the stomach by replenishing the fluids in the stomach), and can be used in treating deficiency of yin in the lungs and the stomach, which is seen as coughing, hunger and lack of desire for food and drink, five heartburns and heatiness, and night sweating (sweating abnormally after going to sleep and stopping after waking up). Maitong is contraindicated in patients with deficiency of spleen and stomach (spleen and stomach weak and cold), diarrhea, phlegm in the stomach (pathological product of impaired metabolism of water and fluid), dampness and coughing due to wind-cold. The adverse reactions of the above drugs have not been clarified, and are contraindicated in allergic patients.
