Understanding of TCM in the treatment of childhood disorders, including Tourette’s Syndrome

Many parents often turn to Chinese herbal medicine for illnesses that are not well treated by Western doctors. This is not wrong in principle, but many parents come to the doctor with their own opinions after “doing their homework” on the Internet, or prescribe medicine based on their own theories of Chinese medicine from health programs. This not only affects the doctor’s observation and analysis, but also affects the mutual trust and can cause the doctor’s judgment to be limited. So I would like to remind parents of the principles of medical treatment as follows: 1. Children’s physique is different from that of adults, including boys and girls gender-wise there should not be much difference in personality. So there is no need to use cold and warm to determine the child’s physique. In principle, children are pure Yang body, infantile Yin and Yang. In other words, unless there is a specific genetic disease, children are all born with upward growth, that is, they are all in the peak of growth. Both organs and functions are in a relatively naive and incomplete state, so some of the so-called “deficiency evidence” is mostly within the normal range. Spleen deficiency, which represents water and grain transportation and immunity, is more common. There is no need to make a fuss about it. 2. Infectious diseases, such as cough and fever and pneumonia, can be treated with Western medicine at the same time as traditional Chinese medicine. The specialty of Chinese medicine is that it can take into account both the surface and the inside. 3, neurological diseases, such as epilepsy, high fever convulsions, infantile spasms, it is possible to combine Chinese and Western medicine to achieve better results. For example, high fever convulsions can enhance resistance to long-term use of Chinese medicine, and rarely or no longer fever that convulsions do not occur, avoiding the negative impact of Western medicine that affects mental development. Infantile spasms because of the poor efficacy of Western medicine side effects, and aggravate the disadvantages of mental decline, the use of Chinese medicine can avoid excessive decline in intelligence. 4, psychiatric disorders, such as tics, attention deficit, obsessive-compulsive disorder, child autism, etc., do not need to use psychiatric drugs, such as: thiopiridol, haloperidol, Vestone, aripiprazole, focus on the da, Zestar. The disadvantages of using are far greater than not using, and the longer psychotropic drugs are used, the less effective the treatment and the more psychiatric symptoms appear. In particular, the longer the use of psychotropic drugs for Tourette’s syndrome, the more persistent the symptoms become, and the more bizarre the personality is and the more they eventually leave school. Attention deficit use of Focusa and Zithromax eventually fails to improve academic performance and makes it difficult to complete higher levels of schooling. Childhood autism can be longer-term use of herbal medicine, cognition will have better progress. 5, side effects, the use of any drug may have such and such side effects, specialized research institutions are also studying, where the side effects of drugs are explicitly issued, doctors will not use. Potential that will require long-term clinical observation. Screening and elimination of drugs with high side effects. Generally Chinese medicine in the use of such and such discomfort, inform the doctor at any time to switch can be. Choosing the length of time to use the medicine, that depends on the needs of the disease, and where the parents’ desire expectations for treatment are. Don’t ask your doctor to answer questions like no side effects of herbal medicine. Don’t treat herbal medicine as a rag and have a stain to wipe, the conditioning of herbal medicine also needs to be consistent. If you can’t accept coherent treatment, then explain it directly with your doctor. No doctor will force anyone to take medicine. 6, no special circumstances want to take the child face-to-face, at least the doctor to take a look at the child’s condition, look and smell a little, and the doctor’s language on the child’s impact and the drug is equally important. Don’t take a prescription and turn it around on your own. For children with Tourette’s syndrome and attention deficit disorder, this is not helpful, and the doctor’s encouragement and guidance is very important.
