What to do if your baby’s belly button protrudes

Babies sometimes have a protruding belly button after birth, so what about the baby’s protruding belly button? The following describes how to deal with it. 1, the belly button is not well closed baby, in crying, coughing, diarrhea, the nearby intestines will be squeezed outside the abdominal wall, forming a round package, which is the umbilical hernia. The more the baby cries, the higher the abdominal pressure, and the larger and more obvious the umbilical hernia bulges out. 2. The bulge of the umbilical hernia is very soft to the touch. Generally speaking, it can be reset after pressure is applied. However, when the umbilical hernia is stuck in the umbilicus for a longer period of time, it may become entrapped and cannot be returned by hand. In this case, urgent medical attention is needed. Because of the pressure on the intestinal wall and poor blood flow, there is a risk of intestinal ischemia and necrosis. 3. If the baby’s umbilical hernia bulge is less than 5 cm, then parents need not worry. Umbilical hernia can heal naturally as the baby grows older and the abdominal wall muscles are strengthened, and there are no adverse effects afterwards. About 80% of babies will heal by the age of 1 year and 90% by the age of 2 years. However, if the baby still has an umbilical hernia after the age of 2, the mother should pay extra attention and consult a doctor to choose a treatment method. If you find that your baby’s belly button is protruding, you should determine if it is an umbilical hernia according to the symptoms so that you can take reasonable care measures.
