Self-diagnosis and prevention of mouse hand

Nowadays, computer has become an indispensable tool in people’s daily work and life. Many people use computers every day, tapping on the keyboard and clicking the mouse for a long time without interruption. A modern civilization disease, “carpal tunnel syndrome”, has also entered the public eye. Today, we invite Professor Zhang Yong, an orthopedic specialist from Tangdu Hospital of the Fourth Military Medical University, to tell our readers about the self-diagnosis and prevention of carpal tunnel syndrome. Prof. Zhang Yong, Orthopedics Department, Tangdu Hospital: In clinical work, we often encounter patients who go to the hospital with numbness, soreness and weakness of the thumb, index finger, middle finger and ring finger due to repeated mechanical clicking of the mouse, and impaired sensation and movement of the palm of the hand. This symptom is called carpal tunnel syndrome in our medical science, which is also known as mouse hand. It affects people’s daily life and work, and in severe cases causes atrophy of the palm muscles. Pianists, teachers, journalists, editors, designers, miners, assemblers, athletes (such as badminton, basketball, e-sports) and other susceptible groups of people with mouse hand should strengthen prevention, and please seek medical advice promptly in the following cases. Mouse hand self-diagnosis: 1, palm, fingers, wrist, forearm and elbow stiffness, soreness. 2, tingling and numbness in the hand. 3.Decreased grip strength and ability to work together in all parts of the hand. 4.Pain at night. 5.The pain can be extended to the arm, upper back, shoulder and neck. Mouse hand prevention: 1, choose to meet the biomechanics of the mouse. Mouse size should be appropriate, and the size of the hand not too big difference, to feel comfortable. 2, the mouse height and elbow joint consistent. When using the mouse, the height of the mouse is best to maintain the same height as the elbow joint, the upper arm naturally down, forearm contact with the desktop or padding, to help reduce the operation of the computer on the wrist, elbow and neck and shoulder parts of the injury. 3, it is recommended that every 30 minutes break. Use the mouse when the wrist in a rotating forced position, a long time will appear stiff discomfort. Continuous use of the keyboard and mouse for about 30 minutes, it is best to rest for 5 minutes and change the position of the hand. During the break activity wrist, do some fist, pinch fingers and other relaxed fingers, wrist movements, to prevent stiff joints and unblock the blood. 4, the hand to do functional exercise. There are many small muscles in the hand to control the fine activities of the fingers. Muscle tissue with in and out, long-term use of the mouse, a single action, over time will make these muscles decreases in function. Frequent activities of the hand joints and fingers, so that the ten fingers fully extended. Do some wrist, elbow and shoulder stretch rotation activities, drive the muscle ligament activities around the joint, reduce the corresponding injury 5, move the mouse do not use wrist force. Hand in a functional position on the activity, is the most consistent with biomechanical principles, the most conducive to hand function. When using the mouse, wrist dorsal extension 20 ~ 25 degrees, forearm and index finger, middle finger tip in the same plane, wrist, arm do not hang. Available a soft hand pillow cushion high wrist, to reduce wrist pressure. Do not use wrist force when moving the mouse, try to rely on arm force and fingers, to reduce the wrist force.
